Philip Morris was born in Whitechapel in 1835, the son of a recent immigrant from Germany who had taken the name Bernard Morris. In 1847, the family opened a shop in London. The first cigarettes that Philip Morris made were in 1854,.[1]

In 1902, Philip Morris & Co., Ltd. was incorporated in New York City. The company made its first cigarettes in Richmond in 1929, using an existing factory the company purchased. In 1933, this factory was racially integrated more than thirty years before the law required it. In 1938, the company offered preferred stock to ordinary buyers

The company was formed in 1902, when the United Kingdom's Imperial Tobacco Company and theAmerican Tobacco Company of the USA agreed to form a joint venture, the British-American Tobacco Company Ltd.[7] The parent companies agreed not to trade in each other's domestic territory and to assign trademarks, export businesses and overseas subsidiaries to the joint venture. James Buchanan Duke became its chairman[8] and the British American Tobacco business began life in countries as diverse as Canada, China, Germany, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia, but not in the United Kingdom or USA.

Reemtsma

Reemtsma was created in 1910 in Erfurt, Germany. In 1918, the production was automated. In 1921, the trade mark "R6" was introduced in the market. In 1923, production was moved to Altona, now part of the city of Hamburg, and that is where Reemtsma's main headquarters still are today.

During the National Socialist time the company prospered despite the official anti-tobacco policy of the Nazis.[1] In 1937, the company reported 60% of market share in Nazi Germany. In 1939, Philipp F. Reemtsma was promoted leader of the Fachuntergruppe Zigarettenindustrie part of the National Socialist economy and known asWehrwirtschaftsführer from Göring.

A low cost and strong flavored cigarette, American Legend is a late product of Greek cigarette manufacturer Karelia. That Greek leader manufacturer was founded in 1888 and is producing American Legend since the 80's.

The taste is similar to that of red Pall Mall.
